The Ocean at the End of the Lane

I came home to find a copy of Neil Gaiman’s new book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, waiting for me yesterday.

A new Gaiman book is always a big event for me and I can’t wait to read it. I’m in the middle of several books at the moment – as usual – but I’m tempted to throw them all to one side in order to get started on my new acquisition.

But, no…must wait…must be good…it’ll be worth the wait…


Wise after the event…

Apparently, sales of Orwell’s 1984 have gone through the roof in the light of revelations aboutĀ governmentĀ surveillance. IĀ recall a similar thing happening at the height of the financial crisis which engulfed the world and people started reading Marx’s Communist Manifesto.

I just wonder whether if people read more in the first place, they might not sleep-walk into these situations?

Thankfully, the popularity of books on the subject of the impending zombie apocalypse should see us through this next big crisis.

Book update

I’ve recently started a new copy-writing position and so it’s been hard to find time to blog. On the book front though, things are moving again.

In the last couple of days I received a cover design concept from my publishers. It’s suitably dark and in keeping with one of the main themes of the novel. It needs a bit more work, but I’m pleased with the general direction. I can’t give anything away yet, but will update once there’s something to see.
