Looking good so far…
The Cabin Goddess is kindly hosting a short story of mine, The Critic from Hell! (based on Gape), as one of her ‘Fourth Wall Friday‘ pieces.
When I was young and obsessed with all things supernatural, I thought I might like to be a parapsychologist when I grew up. Mostly, this was due to what I’d read about the exploits of Harry Price at Borley Rectory, once reputed to be the most haunted house in Britain. The story really captured my imagination with all the classic attributes of a ‘haunting’: the unexplained sound of footsteps, cold spots, strange lights and spirit messages.
Unfortunately, like many ‘experts’ in the field of the paranormal, it turned out that Price wasn’t quite what he seemed, and now has a bit of a dodgy reputation. Regardless, a bit of maturity and skepticism has allowed me to see things for what they probably were.
Now though, there’s a new movie on the subject and I can’t help but get excited at the prospect. I’m only surprised that such fertile ground for a ghost story has taken this long to be explored.
